Authors should submit their manuscripts online using the hyperlink “Submission” or click here ( and upload all of your manuscript files following the instructions given on the screen.

Article format and styles

A single word file (preferred) or pdf file including all text, figures and tables for review. 

Title page  The title page should include the article title, full name(s), affiliation(s) and address(es) of author(s), abstract and keywords in English and Chinese in text. The email address and telephone number of the correspondence author, as well as the financial support are also required.

Abstract and keywords  A concise and factual abstract together with 4 to 6 keywords both in English and Chinese are required. An abstract should describe the type of research, objective of the research, brief description of the datasets used, methods, major findings and conclusions, and possible impacts of the work. An abstract is often presented separately from the article, so it must be able to stand alone. A Chinese abstract is required, which should contain at least 300 to 400 Chinese characters. The abstract should not contain any undefined abbreviations or unspecified references.

Introduction   State the objectives of the work and provide an adequate background from which your work is novel.

Material and methods   Provide sufficient details to allow the work to be repeated by other people. Methods already published should be indicated by a reference: only relevant modifications should be described concisely.

Results   Results should be clear and concise.

Discussion  This should explore the significance of the results of the work, limitations of the methods used, possible factors that can has influence on the results and interpretation, and potential impacts.

Conclusions  This section should state findings that are backed by authors’ research efforts.

Figures and Tables

Figures and tables should be numbered and cited consecutively in accordance with their appearance in the main text. Figure legends and table contents should be in both English and Chinese. For vector graphics, the preferred format is EPS.


Cite references in the text by name and year in parentheses. For one or two authors, you need to list all the authors; for three or more authors, you need to list the first author, followed by ‘et al.’

The list of references should only include works that are cited in the text and that have been published or accepted for publication. Personal communications and unpublished works should only be mentioned in the text. Do not use footnotes or endnotes as a substitute for a reference list.

Reference list should be alphabetized by the last names of the first author of each work. In the reference list, a Chinese reference should be in both Chinese and English. The reference formatting style in the reference list is as follows:

Acknowledgments  Acknowledgements of people, data, etc. should be placed in a separate section before the reference list. Statements about Data Availability and Declaration of Competing interests should also be included in this section.
