Abstract:
Based on the systematic investigation and research on the historical seismic data in the southern Jiangxi, we tackled comprehensively the integrity of historical earthquake record starting from the regional cultural background and historical records. Then on the basis of fully tapping of the available information, we made the discrimination and parameters verification for the historical earthquakes in AD 412, 1603, 1847 and 1888.The results show that the earthquake records in southern Jiangxi were relatively continuous after AD 1500. The seismic activity in the studied area is mainly characterized by gradually weakening from southeast to northwest, and the earthquakes mainly distributed in the vicinity of NE or NNE-trending main faults, as well as the intersection of the main faults and the NW-trending faults. The frequency of in-situ repeated earthquakes is relatively high. The results can be used to revise the new edition of earthquake catalogue, carry out seismic safety evaluation and historical seismic survey of engineering sites of major construction projects, and provide basic foundation for regional seismicity research, planning and decision-making of earthquake prevention and disaster reduction.
