  • The present paper deals with the theoretical solutions of propagation of SH waves in the platform, pitted-platform and steep-stepped types of topography. It works out an explanation of earthquake intensification in isolated mountain ranges as found in recent seismic hazard surveys. At the same time a comparison of the similarities and differences of the predominant period formula for steep-stepped topography and a single surface layer has been made.
