PROPAGATION OF SEISMIC STRESS WAVE AND THE DYNAMIC RESPONSE OF ROCKS

  • In this paper, the attenuation phenomenon of stress wave transmitted through a fractured rock specimen has been studied by the method of the Split-Hopkinson bar. The dynamic strength and dynamic stress-strain curves for sandstone and limestone are given. Then, combining with microscopic observation of rock specimen sections under compressive loads, the phenomena of stress crack and the dynamic branch have been analysed and discussed.
