TEMPERATURE EFFECTS ON THE ELASTIC WAVE VELOCITY AND ACOUSTIC EMISSION OF ROCKS SAMPLES

  • The change of elastic wave velocity and of activity of acoutic emission of marble and gabbro samples caused by change of temperature was studied in the laboratory. The effect of thermal cracking on wave velocity was revealed and it is discovered that this effect is memorable. The experiments also showed that the effect of thermal cracking on wave velocity is related closely with that on acoustic emission discovered by other authors. These results can help clear the nature of thermal cracking of rocks.
