The seiches and volcanic eruption triggered by the 6 October 1597 earthquake with Mge;8 in the ldquo;Hunchun-Wangqing, Northeastern China, deep-focus seismic zonerdquo;

This paper investigates the intensity characteristics of the6 October 1597 earthquake, the accompanied seismic seiches and volcanic eruption, and discusses the type and magnitude of the earthquake. The result suggests that the 6 October 1597 earthquake was probably a great deep-focus earthquake with Mge;8 which occurred in the ldquo;Hunchun-Wangqing deep-focus seismic zonerdquo;, and the earthquake produced extensive seismic seiches in eastern China with many patterns similar to that of 1775 Lisbon earthquake. The 1597 earthquake triggered a small-medium scale explosive eruption of Mt.Wangtianrsquo;e volcano at Changbai County, Jilin Province of China.
